Basic Instructions:

You will need:

  • small sponge rollers and 2 handles (at least a pack of 6)

  • angled paint brush

  • Small paint brush (I used an eye makeup brush) for details.

  • Painters tape

  • Screw driver to remove knobs

  • 1 gallon of satin paint for cabinets

  • 1 quart of high gloss paint for backsplash

  • 1 quart tile primer and 1 quart wood primer

     OR

  • 1 gallon universal primer

1. Take all of the doors off of the cabinet frames and put them in a well ventilated area (I used my garage).  Use a paint brush to put a coat of deglosser on one side of the doors; by the time you get done with all of the doors enough time will have passed to return to the first door to start rubbing them down with the brillow pad.  - When finished, flip the doors over and repeat.

2. Dust off all of the doors before moving on.

3. Use a sponge roller to apply one coat of primer to one side of all of the doors; make sure there aren't any drips.  After the first side fully dries, flip the doors over and finish applying primer to the rest of the door.

4. While the doors are drying, move inside to prime the cabinet frames.  It is your preference whether you want to paing the inside of the cabinets; I did not.  With drawers, only paint the face of the cabinet frames, once you paint the inside of the drawer slot (where the drawers slide in) there is a chance your drawers will not slide in as easily as before.

5. There are 2 options for painting the cabinets; paint them once you hang them back up, or paint them the same way you primed them.  I chose to do a little of both.  I painted the first coat in my garage and on my kitchen table and island and then hung them back up and finished with 2 more coats.
